Geography Phd Programs - Options For Successful Careers

There are plenty of us that enjoyed taking geography classes whenever we were in school.  You might be interested to know that you can actually pursue that quite a bit further by taking one of the geography phd programs that are offered in many of the universities in the United States and around the world.  By taking these programs, you will be qualified to do a number of different things and it really all depends on what direction you decide to go with in your studies.  You might also be surprised to learn that there are a number of different things that involve geography other than just understanding where things are physically located.

By enrolling in one of the geography phd programs, you may be eligible to get a rather good job or pursue a career with the government.  For example, the United States has several different places that could certainly use people who had an overall view of where things are located.  A good example of this is the FBI.  If you were familiar with the layout of the United States and could really find your way around quite easily on a map, you may just be able to pursue a career with this organization.

Another thing that you might find interesting is the study of Biblical geography.  This can be put into practice for a number of different reasons and you may actually be able to pursue it as a career.  There are some geography phd programs which specialize in ancient geography and you can use this in your Biblical studies.  Archaeology is only one way that you may be able to use this knowledge but it certainly would be interesting to be involved in some of these digs on ancient sites, looking for things that have not been seen for thousands of years.

Environmental studies is another direction that you could go in with one of these geography phd programs.  The environment certainly is something that is on the mind of many individuals today and there are a number of different groups that are coming out each year who are interested in the study of the environment and possibly mapping where it is going to go into the future.  Your knowledge of geography and how it relates to the environment can be a big help to these individuals and organizations.  Who knows, you may even help to save the world in some way.
